Science Based Class Options:
Meteorology and Physics
Students study weather patterns, droughts, floods, wildfire recovery, and fire safety while using Pine Valley's unique mountain environment as a living laboratory.
Electricity
Using snap circuits and hands-on activities, students learn how electronics function and explore the principles behind everyday electronic devices.
Chemical Engineering
Students use baking soda and vinegar to conduct experiments such as inflating balloons, extinguishing candles, and designing devices that affect chemical reactions.
Environmental Engineering
Students work together on projects such as building solar ovens and reducing pollution in model lakes while learning engineering and environmental stewardship principles.
Entomology
Students learn biological classification, identify insect orders, search for arthropods in nature, and dissect a grasshopper.
Geology
Students examine rock formations, conduct geology experiments, and explore fossilization, rock layers, and flaking processes.
Nature Science Investigation
Students practice observation skills as nature investigators and apply those skills during a hike through Cleveland National Forest.
Critter Scene Investigation
Students apply forensic investigation techniques to analyze evidence left by animals and determine what occurred in various wildlife scenarios.
Balloon Drop Challenge
Teams design and build devices that protect a water balloon from drops up to 30 feet, learning engineering, budgeting, and teamwork skills.
Trees & Me (NASA Goes to Camp)
Students learn dendrology (the study of trees), measure trees, analyze tree rings, and create personal life stories using tree cookies.
The Art of Science
Our natural world is a masterpiece. Students observe cycles, patterns, and designs found in nature and create a craft inspired by those observations.
Waste Awareness
Students discover how long various materials take to decompose and learn solutions such as recycling, composting, and waste reduction.
Standards and Content:
Our goal is to teach students to think critically and engage in learning about the amazing things that are happening in the natural world around them. Pine Valley Outdoor Science Camp is a member of NASA GLOBE Goes To Camp. We also teach to the standards and expectations of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Our curriculum is customized for both public and Christian schools. The Christian school program includes a full integration of Biblical truth with scientific discovery. Activity Based Class Options:
Heights and Balances
Students learn SMART goal setting, climbing safety, gear inspection, and knot tying while participating at the Pine Climb.
Teambuilding
Students participate in low ropes and challenge-course activities focused on balancing, swinging, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Target Practice
Students learn archery and slingshot safety, equipment usage, range procedures, scoring, and then practice at the target range with trained instructors.
Laser Tag
Students participate in strategic laser tag games while learning teamwork and the science behind lasers.
Junior High Ropes
Participants experience the first level of the camp's high ropes course, featuring 15 different elements that build confidence and teamwork.(Additional $5 per student fee.)
